History of the Whitlock’s Book Barn :
Jane Carey, a junior at Smith College, was coming to the United States on the Queen Mary after a year of study overseas in 1936. She bought the books in the photograph on the right while in Florence. She gently pressed an Edelweiss is one of them. She is believed to have jumped overboard somewhere during the voyage and was never found. Eventually, her books made it back to the United States and into Whitlock’s hands.
