The New London House Fire that lead to the demise of exCEO of Zappos

This Friday in New London, Tony Hsieh, the visionary entrepreneur and exCEO of online shoe retailer Zappos died at the age of 46 when he sustained injuries in a fire that occurred more than a week prior. The exCEO of Zappos died as a result of injuries he sustained during a house fire on November 18 in New London, Connecticut.




On November 18, Hsieh, was taken from the home and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries to be treated for possible burns and smoke inhalation. He was later taken by helicopter to the Connecticut Burn Center at the Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport.

Tony Hsieh was an American Internet entrepreneur and venture capitalist. He retired as the CEO of the online shoe and clothing company Zappos in August 2020 after 21 years. Prior to joining Zappos, Hsieh co-founded the Internet advertising network LinkExchange, which he sold to Microsoft in 1998 for $265 million.
