Road trips have always been the most revered outdoor activity in summer and more so during the month of July. This trip on Rt. 154 follows both the Connecticut coast and the Connecticut River. You can begin by taking Exit 66 off I-95, then Route 1 north a short way before finding 154. Here are some of the amazing places you can see during your trip.
1. Fenwick:
Head south on 154 past Harvey’s Beach to the historic retreat of Fenwick. The greenery over here will mesmerize you for sure.
Amazing beaches and clear blue sky is something you will find all across the year and more ever during the summer. Take a ride along the coast and stop where ever you want to enjoy the amazing beauty.

2. Fort Saybrook Monument Park:
Next stoppage on your trip would be the Fort Saybrook Monument Park where you can enjoy the amazing park and also can have some amazing food as well in nearby areas.

This park has more than 17-acres of area which has storyboards depicting the history of Saybrook Colony. Also it has a boardwalk & it’s a great place for bird watching.

3. Old Saybrook:
Now you can head into the north into central Old Saybrook for shopping, strolling and many good places for something to eat. Old Saybrook is one of Connecticut’s oldest towns which was settled in 1635 and located where the Connecticut River meets Long Island. Old Saybrook offers a trove of historical and cultural sites.

4. River Valley:
The last point of attraction on the trip would be to enjoy the beautiful Lower Connecticut River Valley, lined with charming towns and many attractions. The Connecticut River, centerpiece to the River Valley region, soothingly meanders from Suffield to Old Saybrook. Along the way, visitors can stop in Hartford, the Constitution State’s Capital, for a glimpse of Connecticut’s history, or explore the River Valley for rest, relaxation and family fun.
The most amazing place to explore here if you do not have enough time is to go to the Elizabeth Park. The Elizabeth Park Conservancy are stewards of a legacy providing free heritage programming, free concerts, and beautiful horticultural gardens for the public to enjoy as it was intended.
