Kidcity Children’s Museum in Middletown: A Paradise for Kids!!!
As the spring has started in Connecticut and kids look to go out and explore some of the most exciting places in Connecticut, Kidcity comes to our mind. Kidcity is a paradise for kids below 7 years of age as they can explore the world around them and also their parents can have a wonderful time out here.
Kidcity Middletown is a place for young children (ages 1 to 7) and their favorite adults. Because the majority of Kidcity’s visitors are under the age of 5, please encourage your older children to prioritize the needs of the little ones. They request that at least one adult accompany every four children.

How it all Began:
The owner has dedicated himself to making Middletown a great place to live in the (almost) 25 years since graduating from Wesleyan. His family and he lives in the downtown area, where there are always a variety of exciting projects in the works. He has seen Main Street crash and then rises from the ashes since the 1980s, and he believes it still has a lot of room to grow. He established the Kidcity Children’s Museum primarily to make it difficult for people to leave Middletown. It’s wonderful to see adults bringing their children to the museum to play, take in the amazing artwork, and simply enjoy their time together.
About Kidcity Middletown:
Their attractions include a Fishery, where kids use conveyors and pulley baskets to bring in the catch; a Space Age Roadtrip, where friendly aliens travel Route 66; and Middleshire, a miniature medieval village where kids create a castle and keep an eye out for Vikings. Their youngest visitors can have fun in the Toddler Sea Caves, where they can wave scarves and dance with mermaids (age 2 and under). There’s also a Main Street and a Farm, as well as classics like trains, baby dolls, blocks, dress-up, puppets, and other toys. Kidcity also has the only renowned Celebrated Bathing Fluid Dispensary, which was invented by the renowned Dr. Nostrum and is both entertaining and hygienic.
All Kidcity Children’s Museum exhibits are designed and built in-house by Jen Alexander, Scott Kessel, and Matt Niland, with assistance from other local artists. They are constantly creating new things in their garage workshop, so you never know what you will find at Kidcity.

History of Kidcity Children’s Museum:
Kidcity Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization founded in 1994 by Jen Alexander with the intention of opening a children’s museum in Middletown. The museum grew over the next four years, guided by a local board of directors and assisted by hundreds of volunteers and contributors. St. Sebastian’s Church donated the historic Camp-Sterns House (circa 1835) after it retired from a 70-year career as their convent. As a new location for the house, the City of Middletown decided to donate a portion of a public parking lot. The old house was moved 400 feet down Washington Street on March 15-17, 1997, spending two days stuck in the middle of the road due to a flat tyre.
Local artist Ted Esselstyn and friends built their first hands-on exhibits after the house was renovated, and Kidcity decided to open its doors to the public on September 26, 1998. Kidcity Middletown doubled the size of the museum in 2003 with an addition designed to appear like a second old house. The new structure included an elevator and new exhibits, including a special area for their youngest visitors.
Rules of Play at Kidcity:
They want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable visit! What is enjoyable and appropriate for one child may be dangerous for another, so please use your discretion when deciding which activities are appropriate for your child. Because the majority of Kidcity’s visitors are under the age of 5, please encourage your older children to prioritize the needs of the little ones. It should be noted that Kidcity is not a park or padded play area. Although there are a few low-key sliding and crawling activities, it is designed for pretend play under the supervision of an accompanying adult. Kidcity Middletown does not permit strollers beyond the coatroom, where they have stroller parking, due to limited space within their exhibits.
ADMISSION RATES:
- Kidcity’s regular admission price is $10 per person (age 1 and over).
- Visitors with an EBT card and a photo ID can pay $3 for admission to museums through the Museums For All program.
- The ACM Reciprocal Museum Network rate is $5 for visitors who present an ACM Reciprocal Museum Network card and a photo ID (please note that Kidcity’s participation in the ACM Reciprocal Network will end on 9/30/22).
- One-day passes to Kidcity can be purchased as a gift online here. At this time, they are not accepting walk-in visitors or groups, and Kidcity is unable to host birthday parties.

According to some reviews, Kidcity Children’s Museum is the best place for kids. The rooms are creative, fun, and amazing also. Some enjoyed their under the sea area in the basement while others spent well time there.
