Wegmans to open its first Connecticut store in Norwalk!!!
Wegmans, the upscale grocery store chain based in upstate New York, announced on Tuesday (1st March) about its plans to open its first Connecticut store on 11 acres of land off Connecticut Avenue near Interstate 95. Wegmans Norwalk CT would be a new spot of attraction for the shoppers of CT. This place is currently occupied by MBI Norwalk CT and would be a great place for Wegmans Connecticut.
Wegmans Norwalk CT will be located on nearly 11 acres of land off Connecticut Avenue, adjacent to route I-95. The property is currently occupied by an office complex owned by MBI Inc., which plans to move to new office space within Norwalk before construction of the new Wegmans store begins. This store will take around 2 years to complete which is being occupied by Mbi Inc Norwalk CT right now.
What does the Management of Wegmans Say:
“Each year we receive hundreds of requests from residents for a store in Connecticut, so we’re excited to bring Wegmans to Norwalk and to get to know our new neighbors.” Said Colleen Wegman, president and chief executive officer of Wegmans Food Markets.
“We are excited by the opportunity that this sale of our property to Wegmans presents,” MBI, Inc. CEO Peter Maglathlin said in a news release.
The property is currently occupied by MBI Inc. That office complex plans to move to new office space within Norwalk before construction of the new Wegmans store starts.
“Although our current building has served us well over the past several decades, the chance to relocate to modern office space while still keeping our headquarters in Norwalk offers unique advantages to our company and our employees.”
Opening a store in Norwalk puts Wegmans in direct competition with Stew Leonard’s which is Connecticut’s home-grown upscale grocery chain. Stew Leonard’s started as a small dairy store in 1969. It is worth noting that, Wegmans has established itself in southern New England with six locations in eastern and central Massachusetts and have established its food step in CT now.
